How does laser hair removal work?
Our advanced lasers emit a wavelength of light through the skin and epidermis. This targets the pigments found in your hair while the light emitted from the laser travels down the hair shaft and is then absorbed by actively growing hair follicles.
What areas can I have treated?
Our advanced lasers can remove unwanted hair from almost any area of the body. For safety reasons, we do not go near eyes or re-shape brows.
What are the risks of laser treatments?
With any medical procedure there are risks. Side effects associated with laser treatments may include pigment changes or a slight burn if the skin is already sun-burned, tanned or sensitive due to hormones or photo-sensitive medications.
What type of laser is used for hair removal?
We’ve recently upgraded to the latest and most updated laser hair removal system ever made. The Palomar Starlux 500 Pulsed-Light Laser System. We can highly reduce almost all unwanted hair on the body.
Are laser hair removal treatments painful?
Lasers are much like computers in that they are continuously being updated. The Palomar Starlux 500 System is the latest technology in hair removal. With this technology some patients experience a "snapping" sensation which varies from patient to patient and can cause little to no discomfort, unlike the older more obsolete lasers being used.
The Palomar Starlux 500 System is designed to treat all skin types. It is best to consult with our laser technician before your procedure. There is a small percentage of people who are not good candidates for laser hair removal treatments. If you take certain medications or actively tanning you may not be able to have laser treatments.ﾠ Lasers do not work on patients with gray or white hair.ﾠ If one has light blond hair can work dependent on the color of the hair in the hair root.
How do I know if I am a candidate for laser hair removal?
Should I expose my skin to the sun before or after laser
Our laser technology is approved for darker skin types. Your treatment will be more successful if your skin tone doesn't change during the course of your procedures. If you have a recent sun burn, you can not be treated.
What should I expect after my treatment?
Short term redness or irritation may follow any hair removal treatment. This lasts between a few minutes to a few days and does not interfere with normal activities.ﾠ We recommend staying away from hot showers, sun exposure and heavy exercising 24 hours after treatment.
What do I need to know before any treatments?
Stay out of the sun an tanning beds at least two weeks prior to your treatment. No waxing or tweezing 2 weeks prior. You must not be taking a photo-sensitive medication 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Be sure to shave the area to be treated the day of treatment. In order for hair to be significantly reduced, the patient must follow the laser technicians recommendations for the individuals treatments.
Is there a need for more than one treatment?
Yes. Every person will need a different number treatments to rid the majority of the hair due to the different hair cycles each of us may have. The laser only can treat the current active growing hair follicles. Most patients will see the majority of the hair gone between 6-10 treatments provided they stay on a regime recommend by the laser technician. After your first treatment, most of the hair in the treated will be destroyed and there is a fall out process which can take up to 2-3 weeks. The treated hair will work its way out of the follicle at the same time the next cycle of hair growth will soon come in. This cycle was previously dormant when the first treatment took place. This is why multiple treatments are recommended 4-7 weeks apart dependent on the treatment area.
How long does the treatment take?
Depending on the number of hair follicles in the treated area and the size of the treated area, it can take from 10 minutes for smaller areas (chin, lip, underarms etc) and up to 45 minutes per treatment for larger areas (legs, back/shoulders, chest/abs).
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Every patient is different and has different hair growth patterns. For most, permanent hair removal means that the hair will never re-grow. However, some patients will experience some hair re-growth at the treated site after several months to several years. This is because, in spite of effective laser treatment, we will continue to develop new hair follicles all over our body. This often happens when a woman are hormonal during pregnancy, menopause, and during menstrual cycles. Or as men age, they often develop new hair follicles in areas they never had hair before including the ears, back and shoulders.
Can I have hair removal treatments if I am pregnant?
Laser hair removal is completely harmless during ones pregnancy. Unfortunately, we choose to not treat anyone during pregnancy to liability reasons.
Does insurance pay for hair removal?
We do not bill insurance companies for hair removal treatments.
